(Lehár: The Land of Smiles). Daughter of Count Ferdinand, she is loved by Gustl, but gently rejects his proposal. She falls in love with Prince Sou‐Chong and returns with him to Peking. Their cultural differences prove a difficulty, especially his uncle's insistence that he take four wives. Unable to tolerate the situation and homesick for Vienna, Lisa is relieved when Gustl arrives to visit them. He offers to help her escape from the palace. When the Prince discovers their plan, he acknowledges that this is the only solution and bids her a loving farewell. Created (1929) by Vera Schwarz.
