Modern dance work in one act with choreography by Humphrey and music by Hindemith. Premiered 31 Mar. 1929 by the Humphrey-Weidman Group at the Guild Theater, New York. It depicts the birth and death of a queen bee, using a vocabulary of distorted movements and exaggerations of scale and speed. At its original performances it was accompanied by off-stage humming, later by Hindemith's Kammermusik No. 1.
