(b Kingsley, 31 Aug. 1966)
British dancer and choreographer. He studied at the Royal Ballet School and joined the Junior Group of Nederlands Dans Theater (now NDT2) in 1985. In 1987 he joined NDT1 as dancer and in 1989 created his first professional work, The Bard of Avon, for NDT2. In 1991 he formed a choreographic partnership with Sol Léon, with whom he has since created over 30 works, developing a strikingly imagistic style. Purcell, Tollet, Albinoni, Handel, and The Cranberries, 1996). In 2002 Lightfoot and Léon were appointed joint resident choreographers of NDT and in 2003 artistic advisers to the company. Their recent works together include Shutters Shut (2001), Shoot the Moon (mus. Glass, 2006), and Same Difference (mus. Glass, 2007).
