The sector skills council for the professional development of all those working in further education, higher education, work‐based learning, and community learning and development. Established in January 2005, it took over the work of the Further Education National Training Organization (FENTO) in managing the national standards for teacher training for the further education or lifelong learning sector. These standards are now known as the LLUK standards, and lead to qualified teacher learning and skills status. All provision of such training must be endorsed by LLUK's standards and verification arm, Standards and Verification. The change of terminology for the sector from ‘further education’ to ‘lifelong learning’ is reflected in the succession from FENTO to LLUK.
