light to

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An order, when belaying a hawser round a bollard and the first turn has already been made, to fleet the hawser back along the deck to provide enough slack for additional turns to be made. When there is tension on the hawser, the first turn will hold it momentarily, but additional turns are then required to make it secure, and enough rope to do so quickly is provided by the order ‘light to’.
