Quick Reference

A subfamily of proteins (LSm proteins) homologous to Sm proteins that have a bipartite sequence motif called the Sm domain. Lsm proteins form heptameric complexes, either Lsm1p-7p or Lsm2p-8p (localized in the cytoplasm and the nucleus respectively). Lsm1p-7p is involved in the RNA decapping process, a prelude to RNA degradation; the Lsm2p-8p complex binds to U6 snRNA and functions in RNA splicing.
