A phenomenon in which an object appears to become brighter towards the edges. Limb brightening can be observed at certain wavelengths in objects that are surrounded by hot but tenuous gas, such as the Sun's corona. It is particularly noticeable at ultraviolet wavelengths, and to a small extent at centimetre and millimetre radio wavelengths.
