Limburger is a soft cheese with a not altogether deserved reputation for pungency and whiffiness. Originally made in the Belgian province of Limburg, it has since the nineteenth century been essentially a German cheese, widely made in the Allgau, on the Swiss-German border. In the English-speaking world it is much better known in the USA than in Britain.
