(1750–1825),

daughter of the fifth earl of Balcarres, wrote in 1771 the popular ballad ‘Auld Robin Gray’. She became by marriage Lady Anne Barnard, and accompanied her husband to South Africa, where she wrote the journals Lady Anne Barnard at the Cape, 1797–1802. After the death of her husband she established with her sister a literary salon in London.
