US astronaut. He was the pilot of two space shuttle flights, including the Discovery mission in October 1998 to deploy the Spartan 201 spacecraft. In July 2001, he commanded Atlantis on a mission to install a new airlock module on the International Space Station. He has logged more than 896 hours in space. His later flight to the ISS was postponed following the 2003 Columbia space shuttle disaster. Lindsey was selected as an astronaut in 1994.
