A syllabary script written with a sharp point on clay tablets recovered from middle Minoan III and late Minoan I levels (broadly 2000–1500 bc) in Crete and some of the Cycladic islands. The name was given by Arthur Evans in order to distinguish it from earlier hieroglyphic texts and the later Linear B script. Linear A has not yet been deciphered.
