The linear momentum of a particle is the product of its mass and its velocity. It is a vector quantity, usually denoted by p, and p=mv. See also conservation of linear momentum.

Linear momentum has the dimensions MLT −1, and the SI unit of measurement is the kilogram metre per second, abbreviated to ‘kg m s−1’.
