One of the earliest recorded inarticulate brachiopods, and very similar to extant species of the genus Lingula, L. viridis is described from the lower Cambrian of England. It is one of several species referred to the cosmopolitan genus Lingulella. Lingula has been cited as an example of bradytelic evolution.
