Quick Reference

A technique for identifying genes that may be involved in the pathophysiology of complex diseases involving interactions between genotype and diet and/or other environmental factors, by examining the segregation of variant DNA loci (marker alleles) in affected pairs of family members. Marker alleles that are shared more often than would be expected by chance suggest that there is a linkage between the marker and the disease of interest. See also LOD score.
