Quick Reference

A ridge on a planetary surface with projecting lobes on one or both sides. Many lunar wrinkle ridges are lobate; this has been interpreted as evidence of lava extrusion from the ridges, but it now seems more likely that the lobes are caused by buckling and folding of the surface during tectonic movement. Lobate ridges can also be caused by non-volcanic means, and are found at the boundaries of some Martian ejecta blankets.
