location transparency

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

One of the features of a true distributed system: that when the user of the system requests a resource they should not have to provide any information about where the resource is located on the system. For example, when a user wants to read a file and if location transparency is ensured, then all the user need do is quote the name of the file. It is then up to the network operating system to discover where it is on the distributed system and retrieve it.
