This was concluded with Russia, Austria, and Prussia to secure the ultimate return of Syria from Egypt to Turkey. While it provided for the closing of the Straits to all warships, it ended whatever unilateral advantages Russia had enjoyed under the treaty of Unkiar‐Skelessi (1833).
