A Chinese rocket series whose Long March 1 launched the nation's first satellite on 24 April 1970 and put China's first man into space in October 2003. The two-stage Long March rocket is a modified intercontinental ballistic missile manufactured by the Shanghai Xinxin Machine Factory. The Long March 2C, in use from the early 1990s, can lift a payload of 2 199 kg into low Earth orbit. It stands 35 m high and has a range of up to 5 000 km.
