Quick Reference

Classic yoga posture known in Sanskrit as the ‘padmāsana’ or ‘lotus seat’. Seated in this posture the lower legs are drawn in and both feet placed on top of the thighs. Where only one foot is placed on the thigh the posture is known as the ‘half lotus’. In both cases the hands rest in the lap and the head is slightly inclined. This position is recommended for meditation as it provides physical stability for long periods and keeps the spine straight.
