See also lice. Wingless parasitic insect, usually species-specific, often selective in body sites that it inhabits. Human body lice can carry two dangerous epidemic diseases: louse-borne typhus fever and relapsing fever. Head lice can occur in epidemic form in schools and institutions, and pubic lice are transmitted most easily during sexual intercourse.
