Quick Reference

A rare halo phenomenon, normally appearing as parabolic arcs convex towards the Sun and tangent to the 22° halo at points below the position of any parhelion. The theoretical explanation is uncertain, but the arcs may arise by refraction in crystals that are rotating as they fall. If so, two other components, concave towards the Sun, and above and below it, appear to be unrecorded.
