Quick Reference

(b ?Cambrai, c.1506; d Cambrai, 20 Dec. 1539). Franco-Flemish composer. His career was spent mainly at Cambrai Cathedral, where he served as choirboy, singer, and, from 1527, choirmaster—a post from which he was almost dismissed on several occasions because of his lack of control over the choirboys. His surviving works include two masses, motets, and chansons; they are notable for their high quality.
