Quick Reference

Lyell initially collected English and Spanish printed books, publishing an account of Early Book Illustration in Spain (1926). From 1936 however, he assembled a collection of about 250 MSS, mainly medieval. Most of his MSS were purchased by Quaritch, but 100 were bequeathed to the Bodleian Library, Oxford, where he also established the Lyell Lectures.
