Quick Reference

A lie is a statement not in accordance with the mind of the speaker, made with the intention of deceiving. Both in the OT and NT the practice of lying is denounced. Theologians have argued whether a lie may ever be lawful, e.g. to save an innocent person's life. Many would admit that conflicts of duty may arise where a lie is the lesser evil, but such cases are exceptional.
