1 (Britten: A Midsummer Night's Dream). Ten. An Athenian, in love with Hermia, who is also loved by Demetrius. As a result of the magic juice put on his eyes by Puck, Lysander declares his love for Helena, causing a quarrel between the two girls. It is all sorted out in the end and Theseus gives permission for Lysander to marry Hermia. Quartet (with Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena): Mine own, and not mine own. Created (1960) by George Maran.

2 (Purcell: The Fairy Queen). Spoken. Similar to the role in (1) above. Creator (1692) unknown.
