Scottish poet. His first volume of poetry, Far Cry (1943), was followed by many others which include Measures (1965), Rings on a Tree (1968), and A Man in My Position (1969). His Selected Poems appeared in 1971, and he also edited two anthologies of Scottish poetry. Much of his own poetry is inspired by the landscapes of the West Highlands and the life of Edinburgh. Other volumes: The Equal Skies (1980), Voice‐Over (1988), and Collected Poems (revised and expanded edn, 1993).
