Art which celebrates the imagery of the machine age. Its progenitor was the French painter Fernand Léger (1881–1955) whose style was characterized by monumental mechanistic forms rendered in bold colours. The first exhibition of Machine Art was held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1934.
