A disciple of Gregory the Wonderworker, she was a Christian witness to the faith who went into exile during persecution. There in Pontus she and her husband suffered hunger, deprivation, and loss of property. She was the grandmother of Basil, Gregory of Nyssa, and Macrina the Younger: to each of these she passed on the ideals and teaching from the age of the persecutions. She died at Neo-Caesarea. Feast: 14 January.
