A severe, potentially lethal condition in which there is excessive activation of well-differentiated macrophages. It is associated with Still's disease and considered by some to be autoimmune disease-associated reactive haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (ReHLH), a subset of haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. See MAF (macrophage activating factor).
