Part of R. Good's (The Geography of the Flowering Plants, 1974) palaeotropical kingdom, which geographically includes Madagascar, the Seychelles, and the Mascarenes. A high proportion of the genera, perhaps exceeding 200, is endemic (see endemism); and, depending on the taxonomic system adopted, there are 2 or 3 endemic families.
