MAGE antigens

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A superfamily of proteins (melanoma associated antigens) associated with tumours and part of the larger ‘cancer/testis antigen’ family. The MAGE superfamily includes multiple subfamilies (MAGEs A–E, and necdin). Six MAGE genes are expressed at a high level in a number of histologically diverse tumours. The MAGE domain (~200 aa) has been identified in 32 genes on the X chromosome and in 4 autosomal genes and may mediate interaction with neurotrophin. They are potential targets for immunotherapy.
