Expanse of flat land in Co. Cavan, 1 mile NE of Ballmagauran. Best remembered as the site where Crom Crúaich, an idol requiring human sacrifices at Samain, was worshipped in pre-Christian times. Although Crom was thought to have bowed to St Patrick's superior power, a festival known as Domhnach Croim Dhuibh [Sunday of Black Crom], held on the last Sunday in July, persisted until the early 20th century.
