Quick Reference

A reversible change of temperature resulting from a change in the magnetization of a ferromagnetic or paramagnetic substance (see magnetism). The change in temperature ΔT, accompanying an adiabatic change of magnetic field ΔH, is:

ΔTH = −T/CH(∂M/∂T)H

CH is the specific heat capacity per unit volume at constant H and M is the magnetization.
