Leading Iranian Shii scholar of the late Safavid period. Strongly opposed Sufism and attempted to popularize Shii thought among Iranians by writing in Persian rather than Arabic. In Shii thought and scholarship, represents the culminating point in the Ithna Ashari revival that began with the rise of the Safavids.
