Quick Reference

(9th–10th century ce)

The root text of the Kashmiri Śaiva tradition. It clearly had widespread appeal, and became central to the output of Abhinavagupta, who not only wrote a commentary on the text (the Mālinīślokavārttika), but also two works expounding and summarizing it—the Tantrāloka and the Tantrasāra—recasting the Mālinīvijayottara's dualistic Śaivism in terms of his supreme non-dualism.
