Quick Reference

When her husband David died in 1683, Elizabeth took their son as apprentice, running two presses from premises near Fleet Bridge. By 1693, her son had failed to build a successful career and Elizabeth resumed her former level of involvement, issuing serial publications (seemagazine, origins of) and sensational tracts. Most significantly, she was involved in printing the first ten issues of the Daily Courant, Britain's first daily newspaper.
