Fruit of the tropical tree Mangifera indica, originally of Indo-Burmese origin and now grown widely throughout the tropics. The fruit is ovoid, 3–5  in (7.5–12 cm) in diameter, with orange-coloured sweet aromatic flesh surrounding a large central stone. A 150‐g portion (one quarter slice) is a rich source of vitamins C and A (as carotene); a source of copper; supplies 75 kcal (320 kJ).
