Abp. of Canterbury from 1805. He opposed RC emancipation, but favoured concessions to dissenters. He supported many initiatives of the Hackney Phalanx, presiding over the formation of the National Society in 1811 and using his influence to secure the foundation of an Anglican episcopate in India.
