A family of phosphatases (MKPs) that regulate MAP kinases (MAPKs) by removing phosphate on tyrosine and threonine in the -pTXpY- activation loop (dual specificity phosphatases). Different members of the family have specificities for various MAPKs, are located in different tissues and subcellular sites, and are induced by different extracellular stimuli.
