Johannes Baptista Spagnolo, a Carmelite of Mantua who wrote Latin eclogues. These had a considerable vogue in England and influenced the pastorals of Barclay and Spenser. He is the ‘good old Mantuan’ quoted by Holofernes in Love's Labour's Lost (iv. ii)
