It. composer, singer, and harpist. Singer in papal chapel 1637–62. With V. Mazzocchi, wrote what is believed to be first comic opera, Chi soffre, speri (Rome 1639, rev. of Il falcone, 1637), also other operas, oratorios, cantatas, etc. Connected with Fr. court in Rome from 1643 and dedicated his opera La vita humana (1656) to Queen Christina of Sweden.
