Quick Reference

A membrane-associated calmodulin- and actin-binding protein (myristoylated alanine-rich protein kinase C-substrate, 332 aa) implicated in macrophage activation, neurosecretion and growth-factor dependent mitogenesis. When phosphorylated by protein kinase C (PKC) it is displaced from the membrane; dephosphorylation by protein phosphatase-2 allows it to reassociate through the myristoyl residue. It may link mucin granule membranes to the contractile cytoskeleton, mediating the movement of granules to the cell periphery and subsequent exocytosis.
