(Marris is often wrongly spelt as Morris.)
Sir William Sinclair Marris patronized V.N. Bhatkhande's scheme for a college of music in Lucknow, which was eventually founded in 1925. It was named Marris College of Music and is now called Bhatkhande Vidyapeeth. Others whose support Bhatkhande obtained included the Minister of Education of the United Provinces, Rajeshwar Bali, and the Nawab of Rampur, Hamid Ali Khan.
