dramatic poet and critic, who contributed to the Athenaeum, wrote several critical works, and more than a dozen plays, including the successful The Patrician's Daughter, performed in 1842. His son, Philip Bourke Marston (1850–87), blinded in infancy, published several volumes of poems (Collected Poems, 1892) and short stories.
