(b Paris, 1898; d Paris, 1980). Fr. musician and inventor of the ondes Martenot. Prof. at École Normale de Musique, Paris, and dir. of École d'Art Martenot, Neuilly. Gave demonstration of his elec. mus. instr. the ondes musicales, as it was first called, at the Paris Opéra, 20 April 1928. First work written for it was Dimitri Levidis's Poème symphonique.
