Muhammad's slave concubine. Mother of his son Ibrahim. Born in Upper Egypt. Sent to the Prophet as a gift by Cyrus (al-Muqawqas), the last Byzantine governor of Alexandria, in 628. Lived in a loft away from the Prophet's wives' chambers. After Ibrahim's birth, Muhammad released her from bondage, though she remained his concubine. His successors honored and maintained her on the same level as the Prophet's widows.
