Quick Reference

An oncogene isolated from the DNA of a human epidermoid carcinoma cell line. The mas1 gene product is a G-protein-coupled receptor for the peptide angiotensin 1–7, a peptide that has the opposite effects to angiotensin II. Angiotensin 1–7 binding to mas1 elicits arachidonic acid release and stimulates the proliferation of multipotential and differentiated progenitor cells in cultured bone marrow and human cord blood.
