Quick Reference

The printed press, newspapers and magazines, radio, television, and Internet sites that purvey news, information, misinformation, and all shades of opinion. Mass media provide a platform for dissemination of essential health information, so public health officials, health educators, and others need to know how to work with and use them and to be aware that they tend to sensationalize health issues and concerns, emphasize “newsworthy” items, and generate spurious controversies, which may be a disservice to health concerns and the general public.

Subjects: Arts and Humanities.
