Quick Reference

Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. These four are the matriarchs of the Jewish people, since the majority of the sons of Jacob were the offspring of Rachel or Leah and Jacob was the son of Rebecca and the grandson of Sarah. A Talmudic saying has it that only these four are called ‘matriarchs’ and only Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are called patriarchs’.
