The highest level of ventilation that can be sustained for long periods. When ventilation exceeds the MSVC, respiratory muscles fatigue. In moderately fit individuals the MSVC is between 55 and 80% of the maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV); in highly trained athletes it may be as high as 90% MVV.
